“Environmental Education for School Children: Chemistry Social Care (CSC) Himaki Program in Waste Management and Biopore Implementation at SD Negeri 4 Wanagiri”
Wanagiri, Saturday, May 10, 2025 - Chemistry Social Care (CSC) is one of the leading work programs of the Chemistry Student Association (HIMAKI) FMIPA Udayana University in the form of community service activities. In 2025, CSC carries the theme "Waste Management and Biopores for the Future" This activity will last for 2 days on May 9-10, 2025 which aims to increase awareness of students of SD Negeri 4 Wanagiri of the importance of waste management from an early age in order to maintain a sustainable environment. In addition to counseling, this activity also involves direct practice in making compost and biopore holes.
Day-1 CSC is education and the formation of environmental awareness for students at SD Negeri 4 Wanagiri. The first day's activities began with remarks from the Chairperson of the Committee, Chairperson of HIMAKI and the Principal. The main session consists of interactive counseling for students of SD Negeri 4 Wanagiri regarding types of waste, the environmental impact of unmanaged waste and the importance of managing organic waste through compost and biopores. The material is linked to basic chemical concepts in a light and applicable way. Question and answer sessions and light quizzes to improve students' understanding such as Ice breaking games and fun educational activities. The purpose of the first day of CSC activities is to instill basic knowledge and build students' awareness of one of the environmental issues, namely waste.
Day-2 is field practice in the form of making compost and biopores. The second day focuses on the direct application of the knowledge that has been given on the first day through demonstrations and joint practices on how to make compost from organic waste and make biopore holes in the school area by actively involving students. The second day of CSC 2025 activities are a real form of implementing chemistry in everyday life and fostering a sense of environmental responsibility in students at SD Negeri 4 Wanagiri. As a closing, a documentation session and symbolic handover of plaques to the school were held as a form of appreciation and souvenirs. And ended with the distribution of donations in the form of stationery to all students of SD Negeri 4 Wanagiri
