Village Development Activity 2024 "VCO-Based Product Innovation: Aromatherapy Soap Training for Mekar Sari Women Farmers Group"

Negara, Saturday, November 9, 2024 - In the context of community service, the Chemistry Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University, held a training on making aromatherapy soap for the Mekar Sari Women Farmers Group (KWT) in Baluk Village, Negara District, Jembrana Regency. This activity is a continuation of the previous service on increasing VCO production on August 10, 2024 and is a series of the 2024 Village Development Grant Service Program entitled Increasing VCO Production and Its Utilization as a Basic Material for Aromatherapy Soap and Boreh Oil in the Mekar Sari Women Farmers Group (KWT) in Baluk Village, Negara District, Jembrana Regency.


The event began with a warm welcome from the Coordinator of the Chemistry Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University, who expressed his hope that this training could improve the skills and economy of the KWT mothers in Banjar Baluk. Next, the speech was given by the Head of Baluk Village represented by the Head of Banjar Desa Baluk 2, who also welcomed the collaboration between the campus and the local community in an effort to improve welfare through the utilization of local resources.


The aromatherapy soap making training was preceded by providing an understanding of the process of making soap based on Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) given by the Head of Community Service and the practice of making antiseptic soap guided by lecturers and students of the Chemistry Study Program. This time, the mothers of KWT Mekar Sari were taught how to process VCO into economical products such as antiseptic soap with lemongrass, ylang-ylang and rose aromas, which are not only beneficial for health, but also have promising market potential.


The mothers participating in the training looked very enthusiastic in following each stage of the training, starting from the provision of materials to soap making techniques that are easy to apply at home. Their enthusiasm and creativity in trying this new product showed great potential for developing home businesses based on natural products in Baluk Village.


This activity is expected to have a positive impact on the economic empowerment of the community, especially for the mothers of KWT Mekar Sari, as well as strengthening the synergy between the Chemistry Study Program, FMIPA, Udayana University and the Baluk Village community.
