Community Service Activities - Medicinal Plant-Based Health Education at SOS Children's Village Tabanan
Tabanan, Saturday, August 23, 2025 - The Master of Pharmacy Study Program from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University, in collaboration with the Tabanan Branch of the Indonesian Pharmacists Association (PC IAI), conducted a Community Service activity at the SOS Children's Village in Bantas Village, Tabanan Regency, Bali. This activity demonstrated the academic community's commitment to making a positive contribution to the community, especially vulnerable groups in rural areas.
Themed "Educating on Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors and the Utilization of Medicinal Plants for Maternal and Child Health," this activity presented a holistic approach that combined pharmaceutical science and public health policy. To the mothers and children in the SOS Children's Village, lecturers and Master of Pharmacy students emphasized the importance of maintaining personal and environmental hygiene as the primary foundation for disease prevention.
More than just theory, participants received practical training in identifying, processing, and utilizing local medicinal plants that thrive in the Tabanan area. Through interactive sessions, they learned how to use plants like turmeric, bitter leaf, and betel leaf to treat minor health problems, such as colds, coughs, and digestive disorders—which frequently occur among mothers and children.
The collaboration between academics and professional pharmacists not only strengthened the accuracy of information but also raised awareness in the community about the power of local natural resources. This activity encouraged independence in maintaining health, embodied the spirit of mutual cooperation, and taught the values ??of sustainable health.
This event demonstrated Udayana University's commitment to realizing sustainable development, particularly in the health sector, with a focus on local and participatory approaches.
