Aware of Food Security Issues, KKN PPM Unud Students Hold Food Security Improvement Program in Bungaya Village
Karangasem, Bali Saturday, August 17, 2024 - In order to improve food security in Bungaya Village, Bebandem District, Karangasem Regency, Unud KKN PPM students of Period XXIX held a Bungaya Village Food Security Improvement Program through Productive Plant Cultivation. This activity was attended by a number of invited guests, including the Head of Bungaya Village, Agricultural Extension Officer of Bungaya Village, Religious Extension Officer of Bebandem District, Field Supervisor of KKN PPM Unud Bungaya Village, and was attended by 25 participants from students of SMP Negeri 4 Bebandem. The event began with the delivery of a report by the chief executive, Wanda Audina Putri, then continued with remarks by the Field Supervisor of KKN PPM Unud Bungaya Village, Prof. Dr. Dra. Ni Made Suaniti, M.Si. Furthermore, the event was officially opened by the Head of Bungaya Village, Mr. I Made Putra Darmayasa.
The Bungaya Village Food Security Improvement Program consists of two forms of activities, namely socialization located in Banjar Dharma Laksana, Timbul Hamlet and a productive plant cultivation workshop held on land owned by one of the community leaders of Bungaya Village, Mr. Ida Bagus Wira Adnyana. The socialization activity was presented directly by an active student of the Faculty of Agriculture, Agroecotechnology study program, namely Ni Wayan Wadini Murti Manik Mas. In this socialization, tips for plant cultivation were explained, starting from sowing seeds, preparing planting media, maintenance, to harvest time. The workshop activity included the practice of planting pak choy seeds carried out by all participants under the direction of Ms. Wadini. On this occasion, participants can learn how to plant seeds properly and correctly so that they will later produce quality vegetables that are suitable for consumption. Participants were also given gardening kits in the form of polybags, seeds, and fertilizers to learn how to cultivate their own plants at home.
With the implementation of this activity, it is hoped that it will be able to raise public awareness, especially the younger generation, of the importance of increasing food security, one of which can be done by optimally utilizing land through productive plant cultivation. "The issue of food security should be a serious concern for all levels of society, including the people of Bungaya Village, in order to prevent a food crisis that could occur in the future," said the Chief Executive, Wanda Audina.
