Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University proudly contributed to the project ”Lexical Resources For Enggano

`

On Monday, March 18 2024, Udayana University held an interesting research seminar, which focused on the documentation and lexicography of the Enggano language, an endangered language in Indonesia. This seminar took place in the Soekarno Room, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Udayana University, and is part of a research project that received support from a grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), UK, with the title "Lexical Resources for Enggano, a threatened language of Indonesia". This research collaboration follows up on the MoU, PKS, and IoA between FMIPA Udayana and the University of Oxford.


The seminar began with an opening by Prof. I Wayan Arka, followed by opening remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) represented by the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs and Planning Dr. Ir. Ngurah Agus Sanjaya ER, S.Kom., M.Kom then continued with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) I Nyoman Aryawibawa, S.S., M.A., Ph.D. as well as officially opening activities. In the seminar there are 4 speakers who will explain the documentation and lexicography of the Enggano language, one of whom is Cokorda Rai Adi Pramartha, Ph.D from FMIPA. they will share knowledge about developing a web-based system for the Enggano language. This seminar is expected to be an opportunity for master's and doctoral students in the Postgraduate Linguistics program to gain new and interesting insights into the documentation and lexicography of the Enggano language.


This project shows Udayana University's strong commitment to preserving local languages and respecting linguistic diversity in Indonesia. With the participation of experts and researchers, this seminar is an important platform for sharing knowledge and innovation in the field of documentation and lexicography of the Enggano language, which is an important part of global efforts to protect and maintain linguistic diversity.
