FMIPA community carries out Saraswati prayer

`

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University held a joint prayer on May 20, 2023, the Saraswati feast which was held at Padmasana Temple, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University. Apart from the faculties, prayers are also held in each study program.

Saraswati Day is a Hindu holiday which is celebrated every six months, to be precise on Saturday or Saniscara Umanis Wuku Watugunung. This Saraswati Day is a tribute to Ida Sahng Hyang Widhi Wasa in her manifestation as the Goddess of Knowledge, namely Dewi Saraswati who passed down knowledge to all mankind in the world.

Dewi Saraswati is depicted as a beautiful woman with four arms sitting on a lotus and riding a swan and peacock. The meaning of Dewi Saraswati who is described as a beautiful woman, with smooth and clean skin, is a symbol that sacred knowledge will give beauty within. He appears to be dressed modestly and gracefully, indicating that sacred knowledge will lead students to modesty. Saraswati can be depicted sitting or standing on a lotus flower, and there is also a swan which is a holy vehicle or vehicle from HIM, all of which are symbols of true truth.

The four arms of Dewi Saraswati represent four aspects of human personality in studying science: mind, intellect, alertness/mulat sarira, and ego. In each arm held four different objects, namely:

  1. Lontar (book), is the sacred text of the Vedas, which completes universal, eternal, and true knowledge.
  2. Genitri (bead, rosary), binds the power of freedom and unlimited spiritual knowledge.
  3. Vienna (harp), a musical instrument that links the perfection of art and science.
  4. Damaru (small drum).

The swan is a perfect symbol of mastery over Wiweka (reasoning power) and Wairagya, having the ability to sort milk out of the mud, to distinguish between good and bad. The swan swims in the water without wetting its feathers, which has a philosophical meaning, that someone who is wise in living life like an ordinary person without being carried away by the worldly currents.

In addition to the implementation at the Faculties and Study Programs, there is something unique about the Saraswati Ceremony this time, where the Biology Study Program apart from carrying out the Saraswati Day event also carried out the Mecaru Ceremony, which in its implementation apart from being Hindus, the community members were present to help other community members. The Mecaru ceremony is a ceremony to clean the area or environment from negative energies through ceremonies. The mecaru ceremony is usually held regularly every few years. The activity which was carried out in the Padmasana area of the Biology Study Program was attended by the entire PS academic community. Biology and also invitations from other study programs.

It's no different from the faculty of the Biology Study Program, the Informatics study program community members also carry out joint prayers at the local Padmasana. Even though it is not like the Faculty which is led by pinandita, the Informatics Study Program Community remains enthusiastic about carrying out joint prayers independently. Usually after carrying out the prayer at the Study Program students continue praying at Dalem Blembong Temple, Maha Widya Saraswati Temple, and also at the Padmasana Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
