INVITE THE COMMUNITY TO CONSERVE THE COASTAL COASTAL, FMIPA-CIFOR CONDUCT COMMUNITY SERVICE IN THE FISHERMAN'S VILLAGE
May 27, 2023, community service was carried out in the form of planting mangroves in Segara Ayu Fisherman's Village, Kedonganan, Badung Regency, Bali. This service is part of a guest lecture as a form of collaboration between the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University and the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) with the Biology Study Program being implemented.
This activity was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Dra. Ni Luh Watiniasih, M.Sc, Ph.D, Mr/Ms lecturer in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University, as well as students in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University, and comunity of Segara Ayu Fisherman. All of the participants enthusiastically planted mangrove seedlings in the mangrove field.
Dra. Luh Putu Eswaryanti Kusuma Yuni, MSc., PhD as Chair of the Cooperation Unit of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Udayana University and Lecturer of MK Ecology in the Biology Study Program of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences said that this service activity was the implementation of a cooperation agreement between the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Unud and CIFOR. This activity was also a series of guest lectures that had previously been held.
This activity is expected to be a forum for the Academic Community of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University in preserving the surrounding environment, especially coastal areas. As is well known, mangrove forests have a very important role and function for the environment, namely as a high breakwater, preventing erosion, and even as a bioremediation agent for waste substances such as heavy metals. For this reason, the preservation of coastal areas is very important to do early on.
