UV-Vis and K3 Maintenance Training for the Udayana Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Laboratory
Bukit Jimbaran, October 27–28, 2025 — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Udayana University held a UV-Vis Maintenance and Laboratory Safety and Health Training for Laboratory Technicians (PLP) and laboratory assistants within the faculty. This two-day training was held in collaboration with the Integrated Research and Testing Laboratory (LPPT) of Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, as a concrete step towards improving the competence of laboratory technicians in instrument management and the implementation of occupational safety in the laboratory.
This training aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of PLP and laboratory assistants in applying Laboratory Health and Safety (K3) principles, including anticipating potential hazards from chemicals and laboratory equipment. Furthermore, participants were equipped with technical skills in maintaining UV-Vis spectrophotometers, such as regular UV lamp checks, calibration, and an introduction to the device's supporting application features.
This activity was attended by 10 PLPs and laboratory assistants from various study programs within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), namely Chemistry, Pharmacy, Physics, Biology, and the Integrated Research Laboratory, each sending two representatives.
The training resource persons were from the LPPT (Institute for Laboratory Safety and Health) of Gadjah Mada University: Dr. Deni Peranowo, S.Si., M.Si., who presented on Chemical Laboratory Occupational Health and Safety (K3), and Tri Wahyudi, S.Kom., who presented on UV-Vis maintenance techniques. Both are experienced practitioners with high competency in laboratory management and testing.
Through this training, participants are expected to implement the knowledge gained to improve laboratory operational standards and maintain optimal laboratory equipment performance. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Udayana University is committed to continuously supporting the capacity development of laboratory personnel through ongoing training to maintain service quality and occupational safety in the laboratory environment.
