Jimbaran Hill, Tuesday, November 04, 2025 — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Udayana University held a Seminar on Genomic Studies, part of a collaboration between the Faculty and the Institute of Genomics, University of Tartu, Estonia. The event took place at the FMIPA Building, Jimbaran Campus, Udayana University, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. WITA (Central Indonesian Time), and was attended by approximately 50 participants, consisting of lecturers and students from four study programs within the Faculty: Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy, and Physics.

The event was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dra. Ni Luh Watiniasih, M.Sc., Ph.D., who in her remarks stated that this event was an important opportunity to strengthen research networks and expand international collaboration in the field of genomics and applied science.

The event featured two keynote speakers. The first speaker, Prof. Dr. Mait Metspalu, Director of the Institute of Genomics, University of Tartu, delivered a presentation titled "Human Genomic Studies: Digging into the Past and Fueling Personalized Medicine." He emphasized the importance of human genome research in understanding evolutionary history and the development of genome-based personalized medicine.

The second speaker, Dr. Fima Inabuy from the Biology Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University, presented "Beyond the Lab Coat: How Interdisciplinary Collaboration Helps Keep the Community Safe during the Pandemic," which examined the role of interdisciplinary collaboration in maintaining public safety during the pandemic.

The seminar was moderated by I Dewa Agung Panji Dwipayana, S.Si., M.Eng. from the Biology Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University. Through this event, both institutions affirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration in teaching, research, and staff and student exchanges.

This activity also serves as a concrete follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Udayana University and the University of Tartu on May 16, 2023, with the aim of strengthening international academic and research relations between the two institutions.
